Team Fiji’s Aminiasi Saratibau continues to impress during the second round of the 2024 Boxing 2nd World Qualification Tournament in Bangkok when he defeated Trinidad and Tobago's Jeremiah Thomas on points to continue to the final round of 8 in one of four sections in his weight category.

Fighting in the 80 kg category, the Tailevu lad faced Colombia's Juan Ortiz in the first round of the competition which had to be stopped by the referee in the second round.

Aminiasi will face off against Dominican Republic's Cristian Javier Pinales in the final round of 8 in order to make the semi finals of the Qualification tournament.

With 12 fighters in one section and there being 4 sections, Aminiasi has a huge mountain to climb just to make the quota bout for the 2024 Boxing 2nd World Qualification Tournament.

Aminiasi, who lost a close semi-final to Australia’s Callum Peters at last year's Pacific Games, stopped Juan Ortiz of Colombia midway through round two of their bout, to reach the last 16. Ortiz was one win away from obtaining a quota place for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in March’s 1st World Qualification Tournament in Busto Arsizio, Italy.

Meanwhile Team Captain Jone Davule failed to make the ring in the Men's 57kg category which meant a loss to Zambia's Mwengo Mwale while the referee had to stop the contest and hand the win to Morocco's Hamza Essaadi against Fiji's Nehal Chand in the 51kg category.

Fiji's Elia Rokobuli showed great fighting spirit against a taller and bigger opponent in Democratic Republic of the Congo's Hassan Kabengela Ntumba but unfortunately lost on points.

Fiji's lone female fighter, Jasmine Daunakamakama will face off against Vietnam's Nguyễn Huyen Tran on 30th May, 2024.
