Athletes Rights and Responsibilities Declaration

The Olympic Movement is built on the foundation of respect, fairness and integrity. Central to this vision are the athletes themselves, whose dedication and passion drive the spirit of the Games. Recognizing the importance of safeguarding athletes' rights and promoting their responsibilities, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has adopted the Athletes’ Rights and Responsibilities Declaration. This declaration, developed through a worldwide consultation process, reflects the collective aspirations and commitments of athletes within the Olympic Movement.

The declaration outlines a comprehensive set of rights and responsibilities designed to ensure that athletes can participate in sports in an environment that is transparent, fair and free from discrimination. It is inspired by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other internationally recognized human rights standards, principles and treaties. The IOC, International Sports Federations and National Olympic Committees are committed to promoting respect for these rights and responsibilities and to developing mechanisms for effective remedies.
