The Fiji Association of Sports and NationalOlympic Committee (FASANOC) extends sincerest condolences to the family of Hamidan Bibi who passed away in Ba last weekend.

Hamidan was a member of Team Fiji at the South Pacific Mini Games of 1993, 1997 and 2001 and the South Pacific Games of 1995,1999 and was a proud Fiji Representative at the home Games in 2003.   She also represented Fiji at several regional and international tournaments and was the National Fiji Women’s Tennis champion for some time.

Hamidan was an Executive Board Member of Tennis Fiji for over 10 years and held the position of Assistant Secretary in2001.  She regularly attended the FASANOC Board of Management Meetings as the Tennis delegate.

Hamidan was an active member of FASANOC's Athletes Commission and was the AC representative on the Executive Board of FASANOC2001-2003.

From 2011 Hamidan was a member of FASANOC's Women In Sports Commission (WISC) and Chair of the Commission from 2017 – 2020.  She was a very strong advocate for Human Rights, Equity in Sport and Gender Based Violence.  On behalf of WISC, she organized many programs on leadership and women empowerment around the country in both Viti Levu and Vanua Levu.

Hamidan attended a regional seminar on “Keep Crime out of Sport Plus” focusing on the fight against the Manipulation of Sports Competitions held in April 2019 in Nadi.

In 2018, she had also represented FASANOC at the inaugural International Olympic Committee "Olympism in Action" Forum held Buenos Aires, Argentina prior to the Summer Youth Olympic Games.

She recognized the power of sport as an enabler and “making sport more than a game” is a legacy that Hamidan will be remembered for.

Sport was not Hamidan’s only passion.   Other noted programs she was involved with were as Coordinator of the Leadership Program at the University of the South Pacific and Executive Board Member of Women in Fisheries Network.

Hamidan was also a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity Fiji where she was a Board Member for 15 years, with 9 as Board Chair.

The loss of Hamidan Bibi has saddened not only the Tennis fraternity but the entire FASANOC family.   She was a great friend, mentor, colleague and advocate.

Our thoughts and prayers are with her family in their time of grief but we also celebrate her life and her contribution to sport and to Fiji.

RIP Hamidan
