Team managers from across Fiji's National Federations completed the OSEP Team Manager Course at the FASANOC office last week, part of FASANOC's preparation of the Team Fiji entourage for the 2027 Pacific Games in Tahiti.
Team managers from across Fiji's National Federations completed the OSEP Team Manager Course at the FASANOC office in Suva last week, part of FASANOC's preparation of the Team Fiji entourage for the 2027 Pacific Games in Tahiti.
The course began on Monday 14 September and ran through the week. It was facilitated by Kumon Tarawa, Fesaito Mario and Jane Wong, and coordinated by Trisa Cheer and Harvi Yee, with members of the FASANOC Executive Board opening the week and encouraging participants to take an active part in every session and to share their experience with one another.
The programme worked through the OSEP Team Manager modules, beginning with the foundation of effective team management: the phases of the team management life cycle and the functional areas a team manager is responsible for. Sessions covered planning, coordination, communication and preparation across the stages of managing a national team, with participants applying the material to their own sports through group work and practical exercises.
The skills sit on a clear pathway. Completion of the OSEP Team Managers Course has been part of FASANOC's published criteria for officials travelling with Team Fiji at past Games, and the managers who completed last week's course add to the pool from which Team Fiji officials can be drawn for Tahiti 2027, where the Pacific Games will for the first time carry direct Los Angeles 2028 Olympic qualification in selected sports.
The Team Manager stream is one of five in the Oceania Sport Education Programme, alongside administration, coaching, strength and conditioning, and trainer courses. OSEP is the flagship education programme of the Oceania National Olympic Committees, delivered across 15 Pacific island countries, and grew out of the Pacific Sporting Needs Assessment conducted with the Australian Sports Commission in 2004. Its courses are delivered with the support of the International Olympic Committee's Olympic Solidarity programme.
