The Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC) has had an amazing year filled with so many inspiring, emotional and encouraging moments, all while pursuing its vision to "Inspire the People of Fiji through sporting excellence."

The election of FASANOC’s 2nd ever female President in Mrs Makarita Lenoa heralded a new chapter of leadership with a strong focus on national federation capacity building and governance.   Mrs Lenoa believes that good national federations breed good  athletes.

While the qualification of the Rugby Sevens Men and Women’s teams for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games was a highlight during the year, FASANOC’s main focus was on Team Fiji’s participation at the 2019 Pacific Games in Apia, Samoa. Fundraising efforts were centered around the FASANOC 2019 Lottery, for which FASANOC is extremely grateful to all Prize Donors, Team Fiji Champions, FASANOC Partners and the public for their assistance in making this a huge success.

Team Fiji, led by Chef de Mission Mr Patrick Bower participated in 25 of the 26 sports with a total medal haul of 35 gold medals, 35 silver medals and 43 bronze medals.

While Team Fiji finished fifth on the medal table, our  overall medal haul had improved from the 2015 Pacific Games, with FASANOC and Team Fiji now looking  to improve this performance at the 2023 Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands.

FASANOC's Athletes and Communities Engagement programme, awarded the  International Olympic Committee Olympism in Action trophy in 2018 for its Voices of the Athletes programme, continued to grow during the year, promoting physical activity, drug free sport, care for the environment and the Olympic Values.

Also in an effort to further develop and upskill athletes, sports administrators and coaches, FASANOC has continued to promote  Oceania Sports Education Programme (OSEP) courses to enhance the development of  coaching, administration and sports governance.

FASANOC's Athletes, Sports Education, Medical and Women In Sports Commissions  held workshops, forums and programmes throughout the year in line with  FASANOC's Strategic Focus to provide support for the development and growth of National Federations and its Commissions.

In an effort to lead by example and also to build capacity, the FASANOC staff have also completed OSEP courses and Sports Development Officer and Olympian Makelesi Bulikiobo successfully completed the IOC Executive Masters in Sports Organisation (MEMOS) programme.

Another event to celebrate our success was FASANOC's Fiji Sports Hall of Fame and Olympic Order dinner which coincided with the Oceania National Olympic Committees General Assembly held in Nadi. FASANOC was pleased to induct Joseph Rodan Jnr adn the late Quake Ruddock into the Fiji Sports Hall of Fame and award the Fiji Olympic Order to Tony Philp Snr.
