Rugby League To Improve Defences

Both Team Fiji Rugby League Mens and Womens teams will look at improving their defences after both sides suffered their first defeat against Team Samoa and Team Tonga respectively.

Both Team Fiji Rugby League Mens and Womens teams will look at improving their defences after both sides suffered their first defeat against Team Samoa and Team Tonga respectively.

Fiji Men's Rugby League 9s went down to Samoa 18-12 in their second pool match.

Samoa scored first and with a conversion led 6-0.

Fiji fought back with a try from Eremasi Batibasaga to bring the scores to 6-4.

Poseci Tuivanuavou went in for a second try before Samoa replied with a try of their own to lead at the break 12-8.

In the second half Josua Ratu scored and a conversion by Ropate Tobe tied the teams 12- all

Samoa came back with a late try to snatch the win 18-12.

Rugby League athlete Aminio Siga says they have alot to learn and will work on these ahead of their remaining games tomorrow.

Fiji Men's Rugby League 9s finished their first pool game against Tonga with a convincing 20-0 win.

Tries in the first half were scored by Josua Roko and Eremasi Batibasaga with a successful conversion by Josefa Vetaukula.

This put Fiji in the lead 10-0 at half-time.

Team Fiji continued their scoring streak with tries by Josua Roko, and Josese Yaya with the extra points added by Josefa Vetaukula.

Captain Rusiate Ratukana says they worked hard for the win and was happy to get the first game out of the way.

Meanwhile, the Team Fiji Women's Rugby League 9s side lost to Tonga in their second pool game.

Tonga scored two quick tries with a successful conversion to take the lead.

Fiji started to get back into the game with a try from Asenaca Diranuve to take the scores to 10- 4  at half-time.

Shannon Batibasaga scored a quick try in the second half to take the final scores to 10-8.

The Fiji Women's Rugby League 9s won their first game against Samoa 22-10.  

Try scorers in the first half include Grace Waqa, Asenaca Diranuve, Captain  Salote Suka and one successful conversion by Kini Salote.

In the second half Fiji continued their lead with two tries from Ateca Naucevaceva and a second try from Asenaca Diranuve.
