Sale Holds First Press Conference Since Appointment

Chef de Mission to the 2024 Paris, France Olympic Games, Sale Sorovaki held his first Press Conference today at the Fiji Olympic House, Suva since his appointment in 2023.

Mr Sorovaki informed members of the media of the eleven sports that have expressed interest in participating in the 2024 Olympic Games and these sports are Archery, Athletics, Boxing, Football (Womens), Judo, Rugby 7's, Sailing, Swimming, Table Tennis, Taekwondo and Weightlifting.

"From these sports only two have qualified on merit so far and this includes Rugby Sevens and Sailing," he said.

"Other sports have qualifying events from now until July to qualify and we wish them well as they pursue their dreams to make Team Fiji to the Olympics."

Mr Sorovaki said Team Fiji with the assistance of the Oceania National Olympic Committee (ONOC) will be attending pre games training camp in Divonne-les-Bains, France.

"Team Fiji will depart Fiji on the 11th or 12th July and straight into pre games training camp before checking into Olympic village on the 18th of July.

"The Team Fiji Rugby Sevens Mens team will be attending their pre games training camp in Pornic, France on 17 June and will check into the Olympic village on 18th July," he said.

Mr Sorovaki stressed the importance of coaches and managers to remain healthy and fit before the games.

"Team Fiji will conduct its first medical checkup on the 2nd of March, 2024 with the final medical being on the 15th of June.

"A reminder to Team Fiji entourage to also be mindful of their health and wellbeing and FASANOC's medical commission will also be providing physiotherapist's and a doctor at a date yet to be confirmed," he said.

The Olympic Games will take place on July 26, 2024 – August 11, 2024.
