Team Fiji's tennis doubles pair of William McConnell and Charles Storm Cornish have won Fiji another gold medal at the 2023 Pacific Games in Honiara, Solomon Islands.

Team Fiji last won a gold medal in Tennis in 1963.

Both athletes thanked their team mates, supporters and family for their support.

"Its just an insane feeling at the moment," said Charles.

"It hasn't sunk in yet but am sure that as the days go by we will realise what we accomplished and celebrate."

William said the combined efforts of athletes, national federation, family and FASANOC as a whole was part of contributing factors to their victory.

"What really pushed us through to match point win was the support from our Team Fiji mates that turned up at the court," he said.

Despite an early loss to Team Cook Islands during the pool stages, the duo defeated Team Samoa in the quarter finals than Team Guam in the semifinals to set up a final with Team Tuvalu which they won in two straight sets to claim a gold medal.
